It’s hard to believe, but it’s been one year since the launch of SocialMediaSchools.com… and in that time I have worked with hundreds of schools from around the world, assisting them with their social media and online marketing efforts.

To celebrate, I am giving away 12 of my Social Media Schools Master Course programs for the all-time low price of just $97 USD (over 75% off its normal price).

I created the Social Media Schools Master Course after working with a school district in California that, I could tell, had absolutely no clue when it came to the use of social media as a marketing, communication, and education platform. I created the information inside the SMS Master Course largely for this one school, but quickly realized that the information I had put together would be of great use to schools around the world. It was at this time that I launched SocialMediaSchools.com, created the Social Media Schools Master Course, and began working with schools around the world – consulting with them in regards to their internet marketing and social media strategies.

Because my goal here at Social Media Schools is to get as many schools as possible using social media (and doing it correctly)… and because I just wanted to do something fun to celebrate the one-year anniversary of our little website here, I have decided to give out 12 massively discounted memberships for my Social Media Schools Master Course.

As you likely know, this course normally sells for $397… so being able to grab it for a crazy low $97 bucks is one incredible deal. But like I said before, I’ve only got 12 of these courses to give away… and with thousands of people reading this site each month and receiving my regular email updates, I am sure these 12 courses will go fast.

So if you are a school that wants to use the power of the Internet to not only market and promote your school, but also use sites like Facebook and Twitter to better communicate with the parents, teachers and students in your community, this is an opportunity I hope you will take advantage of.

The first 12 schools to sign up will get this one-time only discount. If you wait too long, you may miss out.

And as always, if you have any questions, don’t be afraid to contact me. I’m happy to help in any way that I can… and I look forward to working with you!

Click here to learn more about the Social Media Schools Master Course… and get access to the program now for just $97!

Every once and a while I will get an email from someone telling me that I spelled a word incorrectly or that I failed to punctuated a sentence properly. Sometimes my grammar is just way off – I’ll admit it.

Of course, I understand that coming from an educational background, we should do our best to emphasize correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. But the truth is, these things simply don’t matter as much when it comes to social media use.

When you are using Twitter (for example) and you only have 140 characters to spit out a message, you sometimes have to use abbreviations and tricky word cheats in order to get your message across. In the world of social networking, this is perfectly fine! And yet, some people still get caught up on these tiny mistakes.

I’ve found, however, that most young people are hip to that fact that these little “boo-boos” are socially acceptable. The golden rule seems to be, “If I can understand what you are trying to say, then it’s perfectly fine.”

However, the older generation just doesn’t get it! (Or some of them don’t at least.)

The reason I bring this whole thing up, however, is not to say that grammar and spelling mistakes are okay. Instead, the point I want to make is that you shouldn’t be afraid to make these mistakes in your school’s social media use.

Some of the schools I have consulted with will have as many as five people proof-read a single Tweet before they send it out – each one looking for mistakes in grammar, punctuation, spelling and political correctness. FIVE PEOPLE! And we wonder why our schools are in such trouble right now. This sort of behavior is a huge waste of time, money and resources!

Just type up the message, check it over once, and send it out! If there is a mistake in your message, that’s okay. And if it’s a big mistake, simply go back and correct it. Don’t be afraid to make a few mistakes! Spelling and grammar simply don’t matter as much as they used to.

Earlier this week I emailed you about a cool FREE report my friend Laura created to help you understand how NOT TO USE TWITTER in your organization.

If you did not get that free report, you can still download it here:

Why Being an “Expert” is Making You Useless on Twitter

Laura also just recently did a live webinar during which she discussed how she used Twitter to build a successful 6-figure business for herself.

This is important because SCHOOLS ARE BUSINESSES and the techniques she used can be used by educational institutions as well.

Laura’s webinar earlier this week was live, but lucky for you she recorded the event… so if you missed it, you can watch it here:

http://twitterwebinar.com/go/?page_id=32

Finally, Laura has created a course called “Your Backstage Pass To Twitter“, which is designed to help you get up and running with Twitter.com and teach you everything you need to know to become successful on this truly important social networking website.

Now, Laura did create this course with small businesses in mind, but like I said before “A SCHOOL IS A BUSINESS”… and I know that the information covered in her report… in her videos… and in
her course will be relevant to you as well.

So, I encourage you. When you have a spare minute, head on over to the following page…

Your Backstage Pass To Twitter

… and listen to what my friend Laura has to say!

Twitter is an amazing new tool that your school needs to be leveraging – both now and the future! If you haven’t taken advantage of this new social networking tool yet, you really need to digest as much of Laura’s content as you can (and the SOONER the BETTER)!

Grab it here: Free Twitter Success Report

The report is called “Why Being An Expert Is Making You Useless On Twitter“.

It was written by a friend of mine (named Laura) who works with small business owners and helps them succeed in the world of social media, but I think a lot of the information inside the report is relevant to schools, parents, teachers and students as well. After all, a school is a business… right?

The report basically talks about how remaining TOO SERIOUS and PROFESSIONAL is actually working against you – which is something many schools are guilty of.

In the report, Laura tells you why it is actually important for you to talk about silly and personal things like what you ate for breakfast and what you are planning to do on Friday night.

This is valuable information for anyone on Twitter – especially those of us in the education world!

To get a free copy of this incredible new Twitter success guide, simply visit the following address: https://roeder.infusionsoft.com/go/bptt20105m/dralfalf/

Every January, in the snow covered hills of Park City, Utah, the infamous Sundance Film Festival takes over and artists from around the world flock to the city’s Main Street in order to take in the most creative and thought-provoking films of the year.

This year, a documentary film titled “Waiting For Superman” was featured and nominated for the Grand Jury Prize in the documentary category at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.

The movie, directed by award-winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, is about how America’s education system is failing to educate our children. The film follows five families from different parts of the United States as they do their try their hardest to give their children the best education they possibly can. Sadly, Guggenheim believes that our education system is not doing justice to out children… and for this reason, he has pulled his own children out of public school and enlisted them in a private school where they can be adequately challenged.

Now, I haven’t seen the film myself, but being a local here in Park City, I can tell you that “Waiting For Superman” was the talk of the town during this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Not only was the film picked up for major distribution, but it also garnished the attention of Bill Gates, who flew in just to this particular movie.

When “Waiting For Superman” comes out later this year, I know that I am going to be one of the first people in line to see it… and I highly recommend you do the same.

Have you seen Waiting For Superman yet? If so, what did you think?

Let’s face it! This whole social media thing can be a bit scary for school administrators.

In the past, information from the schools was sent as a one-way message from administrators to parents, teachers and community members. But now, with the onslaught of new interactive tools such as Facebook and Twitter, suddenly your school’s parents, teachers, students, and community members have a voice. Not only can they receive your messages, but they can talk back! And not only can they talk back, but they can share their message with the entire world in just a matter of seconds.

Many schools understand that social media is important, but they’re still afraid to take the leap. They think that before they get started they’ve got to have canned responses to each and every possible question that might come their way. They’re afraid of what their community might think or say, so they waste months trying to create backup plans and policies before making the leap.

But these schools don’t get it! Social media isn’t about controlled messages from a PR professional. It’s about being honest, transparent, and open about the actions you and your staff members are taking to make your school a better place for everyone involved.

You don’t need to have a backup plan to use social media in your school. You don’t need to hire a PR representative. You don’t need canned responses. And you don’t need to police the various social media websites to ensure no one is saying anything negative about you or your school.

Instead, you just need to get in there and join the conversation. In most cases you’ll find that the conversation is incredibly positive. And even if a negative comment or remark is made about you or your school, you’ll find that with a little honesty you can come out of the situation with a great piece of information you can use in the future to make your school an even better place.

I understand that there’s a lot of be frightened of when it comes to social media in the schools. But if you are ever going to fully understand what this social media thing is all about, you’ve got to stop being so cautious and start taking a little action.
