Why Spelling And Grammar Don’t Matter

Every once and a while I will get an email from someone telling me that I spelled a word incorrectly or that I failed to punctuated a sentence properly. Sometimes my grammar is just way off – I’ll admit it.

Of course, I understand that coming from an educational background, we should do our best to emphasize correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. But the truth is, these things simply don’t matter as much when it comes to social media use.

When you are using Twitter (for example) and you only have 140 characters to spit out a message, you sometimes have to use abbreviations and tricky word cheats in order to get your message across. In the world of social networking, this is perfectly fine! And yet, some people still get caught up on these tiny mistakes.

Why Being An Expert On Twitter is Making You Useless

This is just a quick note to tell you about a cool FREE report that has been created to help you succeed on Twitter.

Grab it here: Free Twitter Success Report

The report is called “Why Being An Expert Is Making You Useless On Twitter“.

It was written by a friend of mine (named Laura) who works with small business owners and helps them succeed in the world of social media, but I think a lot of the information inside the report is relevant to schools, parents, teachers and students as well. After all, a school is a business… right?

The report basically talks about how remaining TOO SERIOUS and PROFESSIONAL is actually working against you – which is something many schools are guilty of.

How Schools Can Use Social Media To Attract New Students And Make More Money

The last time I checked, the more students a school had, the more money they made. And money (correct me if I’m wrong) is a good thing. We all need it in order to keep doing our jobs… and we all need it in order to survive.

So, if you understand that more money can come as the result of having more students in your school, the question then becomes, “How do you attract more students?”

Based on my experiences, the best way to do this is through the creation of social proof.

Social proof is something one creates in order to prove to others that what he or she says or does is worth paying attention to. In short, it’s a way of building yourself up so that you can sway the actions of a large group of people.

4 Major Mistakes Your School Might Be Making With Social Media… And What You Can Do About It

For many school administrators and education officials, the Internet (and especially social media) is an entirely unknown world. However, most school officials know that these new tools need to be put to good use. But the question I’m often asked is, “How exactly?”

For the past two years I’ve been working with schools around the world to tackle this very question… and I’ve created The Social Media Schools Master Course for those schools wishing to quickly and easily start using social media (without making the mistakes so many schools have made in the past).

Schools Using Social Media To Communicate And Educate

When it comes to schools using social media, there are two main areas of discussion.

  1. The first is that of communication; where social media is used as a tool for school administrators to communicate with parents, teachers, students and community members. In turn, these new online tools are also used as a way for parents, teachers, students and community members to voice their views and opinions back to school administrators and education officials.
  2. The second area of discussion is that of education, where social media is taught and used in the classroom as a platform for sharing, learning, and growing.

The first area of concern (communication) is a no-brainer. Of course your school should be using social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr to keep in touch and communicate with the people in your “tribe”. Social media sites such as these are a great tool for school officials to have. The tools are free, easy to use, can be run by a single person within your organization, and best of all – your parents, teachers and students are already using these services.

Today’s Students – A Vision Of The Future

Today’s students don’t learn, act, or live the way students of the past did. They watch more TV, read fewer books, interact with people around the world on a daily basis, and come out of college with an average of $20,000 in debt.

Many believe that our education system is antiquated, and that the rapid growth of the Internet and social media sites like Facebook are finally making some educators realize just how much our education system needs a massive overhaul.

To get a better idea of what today’s students lives are like, watch the video below:
